Charles Ray Legate, age 74 of Springfield, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 at the home of his son.
He was born on June 3, 1942 to the late Charles and Louis Legate in Montgomery Co. Tennessee.
Mr. Legate went to work in 1966 at Springfield Steel and purchased the business in 1981. Since that day Mr. Legate has shown up to work every day even after his retirement in 2009. He would always claim in the winter he was going to do more fishing, but he was faithful to the business that even after he stopped driving he had a friend bring him to and from work every day.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Legate is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Glenn.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Linda Legate; children, Andy (Wanda) Legate, Wendy (Clint) Donoho, and Presley Legate; grandchildren, Ann Mari Legate, Kenneth “CK” Whitaker, Tiffany Lee Smith, Katelyn Donoho, and Eric Wright; 5 great-grandchildren; and siblings Sue (Bobby) Stratton, Robert (Angie) Legate and Ted Legate.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Mitiz McCain for her compassion and care to Mr. Legate the last few weeks.
A Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 2pm in the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29th from 5-8pm then again on Thursday from 12 noon until the time of service. Burial will follow at Springfield Memorial Gardens with Eddie Long, CK Whitaker, Clint Donoho, Eric Wright, Erine Smith and Dwayne Emberton serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Key and Jim Armes.

    I never got to meet you. But I did get to know Wendy and a nicer person you could not meet. I wish the family all the best during this time. And take solace that he is now no longer in pain. After reading what was written about him. I know where Wendy got her work ethic. Wendy all my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I am very sorry for your loss.

    Charile ray was the best man you could ask for and he will be missed by many I’m glad I had a chance to be in his life in till we meet again! I love you old man!
