James H. (Jim) May of Springfield, Tennessee, passed away on March 6, 2016. Jim was born June 2, 1927, in Lincoln County, Tennessee to the late John Henry and Birtie May. Jim served proudly aboard the USS San Diego and the USS Bon Homme Richard in the Pacific in World War II then traveled the roads of this country as a truck driver for over 35 years before retiring and raising his beloved Longhorn cattle on his farms in Cross Plains and Springfield. Jim loved life, loved everyone, loved to smile and laugh and make others do the same. He was quick witted and always had a twinkle in his eye. He loved children, especially his children, grandchildren and great grand children. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean May, his brothers, Ben May and J. B. May, and his sisters, Mary Lou Kirby, Elma Beavers, Winnie Parks, and Ruby Galligan. He is survived by daughter, Paulette Ortner and her husband, Darnell, his son, Terry Price and his wife, Sharon, and his son, Mike Price; his grandchildren, Sherree Powers and her husband, Carey, Shannon George and her husband, Jim, Briley Price and his wife, Heather, Jonathan Price and his wife, Courtney, and McKenzie Price; his great grandchildren, Martha Brooke Powers, James George, Jude Price, Rosamund Price, and James Price who is due to be born in June. Visitation with the families and friends will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Springfield, Tennessee on Thursday evening from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. with the Celebration Service beginning at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Springfield Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Edwards and Bro. Ted Ingram officiating. Pall Bearers will be Darnell Ortner, Carey Powers, Mike Price, Briley Price, Jonathan Price, and Mark Redfern. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the administration and staff of Springfield Heights Assisted Living Center, Faye Morphis, and Belinda Laney. The family wishes to thank the following for their loving care of Jim: the administration and staff of Springfield Heights Assisted Living Center, the 3rd floor nurses and staff at NorthCrest Medical Center, the nurses of Avalon Hospice, and his friend and caregiver, Faye Morphis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Springfield Heights Assisted Living Center to help care for residents, and to the NorthCrest Foundation, in Jim’s honor.     I love Uncle James so much. He and Aunt Jean were wonderful caring souls to everyone. My mom has never forgotten how they were there for her before I was born after and just always. He was so loving and brought joy everywhere with everyone. He will greatly mised.. Praying for comfort, peace and strength during this.difficult time for all our.family and friends who loved him so much.
