Our memories are of a young man who, even though bound to a wheel chair, always had a smile and a wonderful sense of humor. We will always remember the plate on his wheel chair…”I’m not speeding, I’m qualifying.” Patrick has made it to the finish line and is celebrating in Victory Lane! We will miss you Patrick.

M B and Duane, for some reason I was thinking of Berea, friends and Patrick yesterday. I even had tried to search Facebook to see who, of the old gang had one. I found a picture of MB on her horse. I wondered how Patrick was doing. You all were on my mind. Then a few hours later, Duane called with the news. Somehow, even though years and distance had separated us, I was sensing you and your family. I know words cannot cover the pain and loss you feel. Cathy was so gracious to speak to me about everything. I am so sorry for what has happened and for your loss. I want you know I am praying for you and love you all very much. I will give you a call in a few weeks, so know I will be there for you in the days ahead. May God cover you with his Strength during this difficult time.

    Oh Duane and Mary Beth,

My heart hurts for you. What a dear sweet boy! Patrick taught us to be cheerful even in the hard times. I’m not sure I ever saw him without a smile on that sweet face. Don’t you know that he is racing someone on the streets of Heaven today????? : Praying for your whole family during this time.

There just are not enough words to express the depth of sadness and heartbreak that I feel for you all at this sad time. I have been so honored to have known Patrick and to have spent so much time with him and with all of you. I was there not even 3 weeks after he was born, and we were privileged to spend time with him on many holidays and non-holidays. We had special bonds with him, and I would like to believe it was Alex who gave him his love for fast cars remember the Sumter Speedway down the road and how he used to go there and how he hated it at first?. You are all in my prayers, and I love you all more than you will ever know. I will do anything for you–anything.

    Love you,

    Barbara
