Rexford Bass, Jr.

August 27, 1942 — January 29, 2023

Greenbrier, TN

Rexford Harvell Bass, Jr. age 80 of Greenbrier passed away on January 29, 2023, at his home.

He was born on August 27, 1942, to the late Rexford and Mildred Barnes Bass in Old Hickory, Tennessee.

Mr. Rex was a graduate of DuPont High School and married the love of his life, Ms. Angela Diane Dallas, on November 13, 1976. Together with their unfailing faith, they built a life together full of laughter and wonderful memories. They had many adventures through their 46 years of marriage from traveling on cruises to the Caribbean, skiing trips to the mountains, and trips halfway around to world to Italy and Australia. Mr. Rex loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Becoming “Pappy” was one of the best titles he ever received.

He worked for 37 years at DuPont as an electrician before retiring. Soon he became the Safety Program Director for the City of Greenbrier where he worked for 14 years. He worked hard to help those in need within the community and attended Greenbrier First Baptist Church for 48 years.

When Mr. Rex wasn’t working or spending time with his family, he was volunteering his time to the community. He coached for 10 years for the Jr Pro Football Program in Old Hickory. When he moved to Greenbrier, he was the first commissioner and was instrumental in getting the Jr. Pro Football coming to Greenbrier. On Friday nights for more than 30 years, you could find him with the rest of the “Chain Gang” cheering on the Greenbrier High School Football team then rooting for Vanderbilt’s Football team on Saturday.

Mr. Rex’s love of life, love of laughter, and being a good practical joker will live on in the memories of his family, friends, and the community.

Mr. Rex is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diane Bass; children, Sam (Michele) Bass and Lisa (Kelly) Heaton; Lizzie, their four-legged child; grandchildren, Adam (CiCi Delacruz) Brookfield, Riley (Lindsay) Bass, Zachary Heaton, Cameron (Reagan) Bass; great-grandchildren, Ellie Brookfield, and Ayden Brookfield; siblings, Janna Rubin, and Kathy (David) Dickens and a host of nieces and nephews.

A life celebration will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 2 pm in the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenbrier Cemetery with Adam Brookfield, Riley Bass, Zachary Heaton, Cameron Bass, William Lunn, Ricky Bryant, and Greg Deagan will serve as pallbearers. The Men’s Sunday School Class at Greenbrier First Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 am until the time of service.
