Carl Edward Hankins, age 66 of Springfield, passed away at his home on December 21, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 8, 1955 in Erin, TN to the late William and Mary Hankins.
Carl was a hardworking man; he worked 25 years at Electrolux in Springfield before moving to Florim USA for the last seven years before retiring. He was a faithful member of Eastland Heights Baptist Church and was baptized as a young adult at the age of 23 then rededicated himself to the Lord in 2010.
He grew up on a farm and at the age of eight, Carl began learning everything he could about mechanics. He was a true jack of all trades and enjoyed working on anything that needed it. Carl enjoyed growing a vegetable garden every year for his family and neighbors. They spent many summers as a family vacating in the mountains, relaxing fishing by the stream and just enjoying the time together.
Carl will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and beloved niece Kenna Brook Gupton Robards.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Paula Gamble Hankins; children, Crystal (John Michael) Gilbert and Brian Edward (Victoria) Hankins and children, Harley Gilbert and Ocoee Gilbert.
Keeping with Mr. Hankins wishes a private service was held on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Springfield Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Heflin officiating. Burial followed at Springfield Memorial Gardens with Josh Gill, Hunter Gill, Chris Traughber, Jace Traughber, Rodney Arviso, and Donnie Spain serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Gupton, John Michael Gilbert and Brian Hankins. In lieu of flowers the family request donation be made to the Kenna Brooke Gupton Robards Memorial Fund c/o Springfield High School.
