Carl Randolph Vanderheyden, age 75 of Springfield, passed away on November 4, 2020 at his home.

He was born on July 19, 1945 to the late Carl S. and Georgia Vanderheyden in Patterson, NJ. He graduated from Saddlebrook High School in 1963 and joined the United States Air Force. After an honorable discharge he went back to school at William Paterson College where he completed his bachelor's degree in Biology. He retired from the Nevada Federal Prison when he turned 60 years old.

Carl had an adventurous personality and was certified as a Scuba Diver. He loved to read books on different wars throughout the years especially WWI and WWII and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. A favorite memory that was shared was when Carl took the girls sledding in New Jersey and taught them to roller skate and Ice skate. Memories like this and others will be treasured and passed down for years to come.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Henrietta Vanderheyden.

He is survived by his children, Georgia (Donnie) Rittenberry, Leslie Ann Ackerman, Robert Carl Vanderheyden and Christopher John (Keely) Vanderheyden; grandchildren, Tiffany (Shawn) Tarrence, James (Megan) Baggett, Heather (Jacob) Hinsley, Rachal Ackerman, Joshua Ackerman, and Jordan Vanderheyden; 7 great-grandchildren, siblings, Virginia (Arturo) Villalba and Elizabeth Roberts and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be conducted on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 1pm at Springfield Memorial Gardens with Military Honors to follow. Online condolences can be made at www.SpringfieldFH.com.
