Carol Anne Epley, a beloved mother, grandma, and friend, passed away on July 16, 2025, in Springfield, Tennessee, at the age of 91. Born on October 16, 1933, in Kimball, South Dakota, Carol lived a life rich in love, kindness, and selflessness.
A dedicated dental hygienist, Carol devoted her career to helping others from the 1950s until her retirement in the 1980s. Notably, her journey included a remarkable year spent in Hawaii, where she took care of children, showcasing her compassionate spirit. Her commitment to service did not end with her profession; she was deeply involved with senior citizens and shared her passion for teaching through chair yoga.
Family was at the heart of Carol's life. She took immense pride in raising her five children—Russ Allen, Troy Jones, Dawn Allen, Scott Downey, and Janell Epley—encouraging them to explore their interests, whether through music, literature, or personal pursuits. Her nurturing guidance extended to her grandchildren, Mark Haynes, Jessica Shomo, Melissa Riddle, Kalea Black, Leanna Marcum, and Riley Hatfield, where she imparted valuable life skills, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Carol delighted in being a great grandmother to Hennessy Haynes, embracing her role with joy and love.
Throughout her life, Carol's warm and eclectic personality endeared her to many. She found happiness in simple pleasures, whether it was playing Bingo with friends at the senior center, engaging with people around the globe in Words with Friends, or cherishing family trips to the Smoky Mountains and Kansa during her childhood, packed in the back of a station wagon. Her vivacious spirit even led her to enjoy watching "Flea Market Flip," going to estate and yard sales, always searching for inspiration and joy in everyday moments.
Carol’s legacy as a kind and loving individual will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. She is also survived by her siblings, John Cady and Saundra Spera, along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins , Richard Andert and Christina Irwin who cherish their memories of her.
She reunites in peace with her parents, Harold Russell Cady and Loise Irwin Cady, and her loving husband, Donald Wayne Epley, knowing she brought happiness to those around her and made a significant impact on the lives she touched. In remembering Carol, we honor a life filled with love, compassion, and a commitment to uplifting others—a true testament to the remarkable woman she was.
