Cathy Ann Sickels, 63, passed away Thursday October 10, 2019 at her home. Born July 1, 1956 in Massena, NY, Cathy was the daughter of the late Caryl Gibson and Doreen (Donnely) Gibson. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas J. Gibson. Cathy graduated from Holy Family High School in Massena. She received her nursing education from the State University of New York. Cathy had worked as an emergency room nurse, in psychiatric nursing, prison nursing and prison psychiatric nursing before ultimately working in the Office of the Inspector General for the State of Tennessee where she was employed as an investigator in the Tenn Care fraud dept. Cathy was known for her intelligence as well as being eccentric and fun. She loved animals, especially penguins and cats. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, sewing and making jewelry. Cathy is survived by her husband, Paul J. Sickels, whom she married on December 26, 1982; her siblings, Edward C. Gibson, Scott J. Gibson and Jennifer L. Pettis; step-daughters, Melinda Gibson and Selma L. Sickels; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A life celebration service will be held at Springfield Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Wednesday October 16, 2019 at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday immediately prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tennessee Aquarium for the benefit of the penguins.
