David Howell, born on December 12, 1932, in Detroit, MI to the late Leo Taylor and Martha Alice Mounts Howell, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at his home in White House, TN. He is fondly remembered as a hardworking and loving individual who dedicated over 35 years of his life to being a butcher and the craft of marble stone cutting in Detroit before retiring to Arizona.
Throughout his life, David shared many cherished memories with his wife, Jean, and their beloved girls. His adventurous spirit led the family on delightful trips, especially to the Smoky Mountains, where he would enthrall his daughters with tales of bears shaking pots and pans at night. His passion for the outdoors was evident as he hiked to the top of the Superstition Mountains in Arizona with his youngest daughter Sherry, a testament to his love for nature and exploration.
David's personality was marked by an electric laugh that could light up a room, making it clear to those around him where he was, as he engaged with customers and shared his joy. David was even an Elvis impersonator for many years. He took great pride in his family, especially his beloved daughters, and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with Jean and later his devoted dog, Tika, who remained by his side for the last 12 years of his life.
An accomplished archer, David pursued his passion with dedication, winning numerous competitions and teaching others the intricate skills of the sport. His interests extended to reading about Indian folklore, further enriching his life and those of his loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Enola Jean Howell; parents, Leo Taylor Howell and Martha Alice Howell and six siblings.
David is survived by his daughters, Yvonne Brigham, Gloria Jean Hodge, Gail (Tim) Bowman and Sherry Demoss; six grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild along with a host of nieces and nephews.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and joyful memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
