David R. Walters
Early Monday morning, November 3, 2025, David R. Walters, aged 73, left us to be with the Lord. He was born to Frank and Marjory Walters of Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 27, 1953.
David was a 15-year veteran of the United States Army and was very proud of his service, which included postings in Germany, Korea, and Panama. During his service, David was promoted to Drill Sergeant and later became a licensed practical nurse and medic.
After leaving the service, David worked as an EMT and a surgical first assistant for over 30 years. During that time, he mentored and trained many other surgical employees. David saved many lives, including once jumping off the Pontchartrain Bridge to rescue a drowning man, for which he received an award from the City of New Orleans.
David was devoted to his faith and community, serving at Gideon United Methodist Church and later at Greenbrier United Methodist Church.
He loved fishing, camping, and horse racing. In 2024, David became a syndicated owner of the racehorse Seize the Grey, who went on to win the 2024 Preakness Stakes.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marjory Walters; three brothers, Clifford, Robert, and Larry; and three sisters, Mary Margaret, Patty, and Jackie. He is survived by his wife, Merrily, and their three children: Franklin Walters, Elizabeth Hebert (Chad), and Merriweather Lovelace (Kerry). He was a proud Papa to seven grandchildren—Madison Lingle (Drew), Baylor LeBlanc, Mackinley LeBlanc, Hudson LeBlanc, Kaylynn Walters, Clayton Walters, and Alexander Hall—and one great-grandchild, George Lingle. He is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy and Richard Walters.
David will be cremated, and his remains will rest at his home in Greenbrier, TN. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 13, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Greenbrier United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall— 204 Main St. Greenbrier TN 37073. All are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to David’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
