Obituary

Emery Darrell Binkley, of Greenbrier, Tennessee, passed away on November 2, 2026. He was born on September 18, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee, and lived a life marked by devotion to family, steady work, and a love for the outdoors.

Emery was a man with a strong work ethic and an active spirit. For many years, he worked as a salesman for Pennzoil before going on to open his own farming machinery business. As owner and operator, he continued in that work until his retirement. In his younger years, he also farmed cattle and tobacco, reflecting the hands-on determination that shaped so much of his life. That same determination was remembered by his son, who carried with him the work ethic his father instilled through the example of working alongside him. He was a man if Christian faith, and Emery was an active member of the Greenridge Church of Christ attending services until he was no longer able.

He was loving and caring, and he brought warmth wherever he went. Emery loved to tell jokes, cut up, and keep those around him smiling. He was deeply involved in the lives of his grandchildren, ever present and engaged, teaching them much with his hands-on way of living and learning. Time with him left lasting memories, including happy rides in his old truck, where his grandchildren remembered listening to his old Ray Stevens tape, and sharing in the simple joy of being with him.

Emery found great happiness outdoors. He loved hunting small game and being out on the water fishing. For a time, he lived on Old Hickory Lake, a place that became his favorite spot to fish, and he even owned a boat so he could spend as much time on the water as possible. In the winter months, he would tow that boat more than 1,000 miles to the Florida Keys, combining his adventurous spirit with the pastime he loved so well.

He also shared a rich life of travel with his wife. Together they loved to travel, taking cruises and seeing the world. Their journeys carried them to Europe, Japan, and Mexico, and those experiences became part of the full and active life they built together.

Of all the things Emery accomplished, his family was his proudest. That was the center of his life and the legacy he cherished most.

He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mary Binkley, brother Bethel Binkley, and his daughter Kathy Binkley. He is reunited in heaven with his loving wife of 63 years, Mrs. Betty Binkley.

He is survived by his son Rick (Stephanie) Binkley, grandchildren Kyle (Jessica) Binkley and Cara (Chris) Brake, as well as his great grandchildren Emery and Jack. Although he is gone his memory will forever reside within them all.

Pallbearers are to include Kyle Binkley, Chris Brake, Todd Adams, Isaac Adams, Jake Adams, and Keith Kizer.

Visitation will be held on November 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 4005 Memorial Blvd, Springfield, TN 37172. A funeral service will follow there at 12:00 p.m., with burial afterward at 1:00 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Emery Darrell Binkley will be remembered for his loving heart, his laughter, his tireless work, and the steady presence he gave to those he loved. His life was one of purpose, humor, and deep family devotion, and his memory will continue to be treasured.
