It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugene Roger Martin, affectionately known to all as Gene. Born on May 23, 1937, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Gene graced this world with kindness and generosity until he departed from us on August 30, 2025, in Springfield, Tennessee. His remarkable life touched many, leaving a legacy of love and warmth.
Gene dedicated much of his professional life to being a skilled repairman for air conditioning and appliance repairs. His talents and work ethic were a testament to his character, demonstrating the kind of commitment that was so reflective of who he was as a person.
In 1999, Gene and Bobbi made a significant life decision to buy a house in Springfield spending six months in Springfield and then six months in Okeechobee, FL. This move signified a new chapter in their life as they eventually settled down in 2008 to be closer to their beloved family, a move that highlighted his deep devotion to those he loved. Gene was a man of simple pleasures; he found joy dancing and listening to music, fishing during tranquil days by the water, and playing golf or watching it on television, often sharing these moments with those closest to him.
Gene was not just a skilled repairman; he was also a proud member of the United States Army, a testament to his dedication and service to his country. A man of strong faith, Gene and his family were baptized together many years ago at Flewellyn Baptist Church, where he continued to nurture his spiritual life.
He had a heart of gold and embodied kindness in every interaction. Gene's love for his wife, Bobbi, which spanned over 53 beautiful years, was a rare treasure. Their bond was profound; he never let a day go by without expressing his love or affection for her. Their relationship was a beacon of hope and a model of devotion to everyone who knew them.
Gene’s pride and joy were his family. He was a loving father to his children: Debra (Steve) Newell, Robert (Belinda) Martin, Eugene (Alysia) Martin, Kevin (Bonny) Martin, and Lisa Martin. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Kerri (Jon) Scott, Robert (Bobbi) Martin, Rebecca (Shawn) Loatwall, Jessica (Jody) Biter, Ashlee Martin, Jason Martin, Bradley Martin, Steven Martin, and Mya Martin. He cherished every moment spent with his nine great-grandchildren, finding immense fulfillment in their laughter and love.
As we gather to celebrate Gene's extraordinary life, we invite family and friends to join us for visitation and a celebration of life at the Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center on September 6, 2025. The visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a heartfelt celebration of life starting at 2:00 PM.
Gene is predeceased by his beloved parents, Arthur and Alma Martin, along with his siblings. Though he may be gone, his spirit and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Eugene Roger Martin lived with gratitude and grace, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who were privileged to know him.
