Obituary

Harold “Steve” England June 5, 1961 – July 1, 2026

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Lord called our beloved father, Steve, home while he was in Panama City Beach, Florida—his favorite place to be on this side of heaven.

Steve was born on June 5, 1961, in Springfield, Tennessee, to Harold England and Christine Hand. He was also deeply blessed by the love and guidance of Big Joe and Annie Bilyeu, who poured into his life and showed him what it truly means to love through action.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold England and Christine Hand; his sisters, Marilyn and Wanda England; and his cousin and lifelong best friend, Alvin Heatherly.

Steve's greatest pride and joy was his family. He leaves behind two sons, Mark England and Josh (Leslie) England, who were his greatest blessings and the center of his life. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughters, Charlea, Sadie, Karsyn, Sydney, Morgan, Meagan, and Madi, who filled his life with laughter and happiness, and his great-grandson, Waylon, who brought him immeasurable joy during the final months of his life. He also leaves behind his sisters, Cathy (Ricky) Colson and Carolyn (Clyde) Crutcher; his brother, Wesley England; and the mother of his children, Sonya (Jerry) Henry, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

After graduating from Springfield High School with the Class of 1980, Steve began working at Southern Heel before starting a long career with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, where he faithfully served until his retirement. He believed deeply in the value of hard work and was never afraid to take on extra jobs to provide for his family.

Steve was a lifelong member of South Main Baptist Mission, where he faithfully served by driving the church bus for many years. His faith was not confined to Sunday mornings but was evident in the way he lived each day. He loved the simple things in life—casting a fishing line, spending time at the ocean, watching movies, and enjoying anything that allowed him to be outdoors. He especially loved tinkering in the yard and spending quiet evenings on his front porch. But above all else, Steve's favorite place to be was with his family. Whether on vacation, gathered around the table, or simply enjoying time together, those moments brought him his greatest happiness.

No matter how busy life became, Steve always made time for others. He quietly cared for widows and elderly neighbors by mowing their yards, maintaining their homes, and helping however he could. More importantly, he taught his sons to do the same. Saturday mornings often began with Steve waking them early to make the rounds together, serving those who needed an extra helping hand. He didn't simply tell his boys how to love others—he showed them.

Steve's greatest legacy is one of sacrificial love. He never measured people by their past, their position, or what they could offer in return. He loved freely, generously, and without condition. Whether family, friend, neighbor, or stranger, Steve had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, valued, and loved. His familiar words, "Jesus loves you, and I do too," were far more than a phrase—they were the way he lived his life every day.

His kindness was practical. He was the first person many called when they needed help because they knew he would show up without hesitation. He gave generously of his time, his strength, and his heart, asking for nothing in return. Through countless quiet acts of service, Steve made his community a better place and left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

As a young adult, Steve accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, and from that day forward his faith became the foundation of his life. He lived out the Gospel not only through his words but through the compassion, generosity, and selflessness he showed to others. Even during illness and in the face of death, Steve remained at peace because he trusted completely in God's plan and held firmly to the promise of eternal life. His family finds comfort in knowing he has been made whole, restored to perfect health, and is forever in the presence of his Savior.

A Life Celebration will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, in the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. with Brother John Jared officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Steve leaves behind a legacy of countless lives touched by his love, generosity, unwavering faith, and servant's heart. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his example will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him for generations to come. He quietly changed the world around him simply by loving others.
