PATTERSON, Helen Pearl Bailey. Born in Salyersville, KY, raised in Marion, Ohio, Helen was the daughter of Chester and Marie Bailey. She enlisted in the Air Force as a minor after high school graduation, rising to the rank of Sergeant before being selected for Officer Candidate School and commissioned as an officer. After multiple assignments, she was posted at Nagoya AB, Japan, as a hospital administration officer. There she met her husband, Lt Jack Patterson. The family moved to Nashville in 1962 when her husband became a partner in Petroleum Equipment Co. Member of Woodmont Baptist Church since 1962, she truly enjoyed her Sunday school class. An avid golfer, she was very active in the NWGA for many years before taking up tennis. Travel was a large part of her life, having wandered extensively through Europe, Asia, and the Far East. Reading, cooking, interior decorating, and entertaining were favorite pastimes, but her life centered on her three children and five grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her passion, and she was very involved in their lives and activities. She traveled extensively with each, reading to one and all, and served as constant mentor, confidant, and role model. Her lessons will last their lifetimes. Preceded in death by husband Jack Patterson, Sr., daughter, Maria Keaton Patterson, sister Joyce Lorenzetti, brother Lewis Bailey; survived by daughter Kimberly Ann, husband Richard Escue, son Jack Jr. wife Natalie McRae, sister Gloria Jean Thornburg, brother Layne Bailey, grandchildren Jackson Eden, Margaret Marie, Anna McRae, Isabella Keaton, and Grayson Lee.
