Obituary

Jimmy Ray “JR” Wilson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 76. Born on April 16, 1949, in Portland, Tennessee, Jimmy attended Coopertown High School. He touched the lives of many through his generous spirit, infectious humor, and unwavering support for those in need.

Family was at the heart of Jimmy's life. He cherished every moment spent with his wife, Bonnie Wilson, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Jimmy took great pride in being a father to his children—Kasey Wilson (Donald) Ayers, Charlie Wilson, Kenneth Wilson along with their mother Lisa Wilson, Timmy Wilson and Tina Deering along with their mother Patricia Newby, and gained Kalee (Austin) Gulledge and Shelby (Bubba Shannon) Cook when he married Bonnie. He was also the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and he found immense joy in creating lasting memories with them. The laughter shared during visits from his grandchildren—Jason Wilson, Louann Wilson, Madison Wilson, and Emmy Ayers—was a true highlight of his life. He treasured moments spent with Trici Shannon and Z'Marion Gardner when they would come to sit and share time with him while Bonnie attended to her errands.

Jimmy had a remarkable ability to spread joy wherever he went. Known for his comedic character, he could bring laughter to any gathering within minutes. His genuine nature and straightforward approach meant that he was never afraid to speak his mind, always ensuring that those around him knew his thoughts. His playful charm extended to places like the grocery store and the Robertson County Recycling Center, where he worked, leaving a trail of smiles in his wake. Jimmy was also a dedicated and hardworking man, always giving his best whether he was at home, at work, or lending a hand to someone in need.

A true handyman, Jimmy was known for his creativity in piddling and finding treasures where others might overlook them. Always a bit of a wheeler‑and‑dealer, he had a knack for turning those finds into something useful or meaningful. He found happiness in spending time in his garage, crafting rocking chairs and fixing cars—activities that showcased his remarkable skills and resourcefulness.

Jimmy's legacy will forever be defined by his selflessness and dedication to his family and friends, holding dear the roles of Dad, Grumps, and Grandpa. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles E. and Mary Josephine Wilson, who surely welcomed him with open arms.

While he may no longer be with us, the memories forged and the laughter shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. Jimmy Ray Wilson will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unique spirit and the warmth he brought into the lives of those lucky enough to call him family and friend.
