Joe G. Savley, 93, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017. Born in Coopertown, TN, October 25, 1924 he was the son of the late Will and Armada (Wilson) Savley. Joe was the seventh born of nine boys and was preceded in death by all but one. He was also preceded I death by his wife, Frances L. (Hill) Savley; his daughter, Audrey Faye; and a granddaughter, Billie Jo Cato. Joe and his siblings were raised as farmers and he spent a great deal of his life as a tobacco farmer. He loved to grow things and also raised vegetables and watermelons throughout his life. For several years he worked for Shoney's at their logistics and warehouse headquarters in Nashville. He was recognized several times by Shoney's as an outstanding employee. He was a life-long member of the Church of Christ and was known to read his bible daily. Joe was also an avid baseball fan. He was a talented catcher in his youth and maintained his love for the game as a fan of the Atlanta Braves. He loved his visits to the Smokey Mountains with his late wife. Joe was also a man who loved to laugh and often acted the part of a comedian to his family's delight. Joe is survived by his grandson, Charles Cato; his great-grandchildren, Deonna Gibbs, Christopher Cato and Caige Cato; his great-great-grandson, Kason Hart; and his brother, Forrest Savley. A Life Celebration service will be held Thursday at 1 PM at Springfield Funeral Home followed by burial in Coopertown. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 8 PM and on Thursday from 11 AM to 1 PM.
