Gordon Keith Thurtell, age 64 of Springfield, passed away Friday afternoon at Northcrest Medical Center.
Keith was raised in Adariville, KY and son of the late Walter O. and Shirley Hallman Thurtell. He was a proud graduate of Adairville High School, and an even prouder graduate of Western Kentucky University.
No place was quiet when Keith was in the room. He was known as a jokester and described as the "King of Dad Jokes." His sense of humor, mixed with his kind, compassionate, patient side made him a man of honor that people loved. When he needed to know something, he would simply study, learn and carry out his task. He loved to make special gifts for people by woodworking or custom t-shirts.
Earlier, Keith enjoyed bowling and loved to read, but his greatest passion was his grandchildren.
If you needed to know something he was also "a wealth of useless information", making him your likely phone-a-friend in time of need for knowledge.
Keith simply thought of others first and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife: Lisa Schultz Thurtell; and an infant brother: Lincoln Elliott Thurtell.
He is survived by his wife: Ann Carter Thurtell of Springfield; daughter & son-in-law: Kayla & Brandon Head; and grandchildren: Xander Head and Kennedy Head, all of Millersville. He is also survived by his special niece: Sadie Fears of Springfield; sister & brother-in-law: Carla & Bruce Quick of Bowling Green, KY; nieces and nephews: Lauren (Seth) Johnson, Elliott Quick and Lincoln Quick; and a great-niece: Hudson Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-7 PM, and again Thursday from 11 AM - 1PM for visitation at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Thursday at 1 PM at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Allen Woodard. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville, KY.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Violette, Art Violette, Blake Vick, Parker Vick, Elliott Quick and Jason Warden.
