Michael Leon Spann, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 68. Born on March 28, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama, Mike leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and devotion to his family and friends.

Mike was a proud graduate of Joelton High School, having formed lifelong friendships and establishing the foundation for his caring nature and ever-present sense of fun. Throughout his life, he was known as a man who found joy in the simple pleasures and who possessed an infectious warmth that drew people to him.

He was, above all, devoted to his loved ones. Mike’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was being a father to his beautiful daughter, Lauren Spann, and a grandfather to his adored granddaughter, Chloe Castleman. His life was enriched immeasurably by Chloe, especially the cherished afternoons spent picking her up from school, a time he fondly described as the highlight of his day. He would call Lauren and let her know he had "Baby Eagle" in his care. Mike always placed his daughter and granddaughter first, celebrating every milestone and supporting them unconditionally. His love for his family extended deeply and genuinely, touching many hearts.

Mike is survived by his daughter Lauren (Caleb Castleman) Spann and granddaughter Chloe Castleman; his step-son John Belcher and Step-grandson Braden Belcher; his Siblinds, Jimmy (Pattie) Spann, Sherry DeMarcus, Ronnie Spann, and Dennis (Tena) Spann. His spirit will also be remembered by his nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends, all of whom were enriched by his genuine affection and ever-present good humor.

He is preceded in death by his father James E. Spann, Sr., mother Lila Ruth Spann, and brother Rickie Spann.

A kind and loving soul, Mike will be remembered for his laughter, his openness, and his generosity. He had a keen love for Alabama football and enjoyed watching NASCAR races with his brother, as well as quiet moments spent fishing—pastimes that brought him both excitement and peace. Michael had an innate ability to make any gathering more joyful; he was known for being a lively talker who made everyone feel welcome and included.

To all who knew Mike, his caring and giving spirit was unmistakable a beacon of hope and encouragement whose presence enriched their lives. Even in times of difficulty, his strength, compassion, and wisdom were always readily shared with those around him.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Mike’s life on August 7, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 4005 Memorial Blvd, Springfield, TN 37172. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life with Brother Barry Voorhies officiating at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Springfield Memorial Gardens with Danny DeMarcus, Chad DeMarcus, Shane Spann, Josh Belcher, Matthew Bolton and Mike Brown serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be his siblings, Jimmy Spann, Sherry DeMarcus, Ronnie Spann and Dennis Spann.

Michael Leon Spann’s legacy endures in the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the memories he created. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit and love will remain with all who were honored to know him.
