Nioma Jane Nelson, age 86 of Clarksville, passed away on March 30, 2020 at Spring Meadow Health Care Center in Clarksville, TN.
She was born on June 14, 1933 in Cole Camp, Missouri to the late Oscar Allen and Edith Walters Huff.
Nioma was a fun, energetic lady who loved spending time with her family especially at holidays. Her daughters and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She loved to shop mostly at second-hand stores always searching for the next treasure. Nioma had several hobbies over the years, one of her favorites was bowling, she was on many different leagues through the years. You could find Nioma listening to old country music like Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty and maybe dancing the 2-step. Another place you might find her is sitting at the slot-machines after a good meal at the Mexican restaurant where she definitely loved sipping on a "special lemonade" (frozen margarita).
Nioma was a former "Madame President" at the fraternal Order of Eagles in Independence, Missouri which is known for promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope. Her heart for serving others led her to a career in the hospitality industry for many years.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Nioma is preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Smith, and several siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Glenda (Charles) Haupt, Rhonda (John) Cross, and Michele (Michael) Goguen; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her remaining siblings, Anna Mackey, Berdina Hanna, and Ronald (Audrey) Huff. Ms. Nioma also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and her lifelong best friend Alice Frank of Olathe, KS.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date privately with the family. Online condolences can be made at www.SpringfieldFH.com.
