Ray Chester Bilyeu

September 17, 1950 — January 18, 2024

Ray Chester Bilyeu, a kind and loving man, known for his hard work, passed away on January 18, 2024 at the age of 73, in his hometown of Springfield, TN after a long battle of cancer and COPD. He was born on September 17, 1950, in the same city. Ray led a fulfilling life filled with dedication to his family and career.

Ray began his professional journey at Oscar Mayer, where he dedicated an impressive 19 and a half years of service. He then transitioned to AkzoNobel and continued to contribute for another 20 years until he was diagnosed with cancer and retired early. His commitment and work ethic were highly regarded by his colleagues and friends.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ray had a rich personal life that revolved around his family and various hobbies. He cherished spending time with loved ones and would do anything for them. He met the love of his life Wanda, in middle school and they became not only best friends but true soul mates. He received his "husband" title in 1968 which brought him immense joy, then he took great pride in receiving his "Daddy" title  in 1977 but nothing beats his last title as PawPaw  he received in 2000.

In his free time, Ray pursued several interests that brought him happiness. He found solace in hunting and fishing, surrounded by nature's beauty. Ray was also an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching football, NASCAR races, wrestling and horseshoes .

Ray's warm personality endeared him to those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, strength and generosity. Over the last twelve years Ray fought Cancer, which he almost lost many times, but through his strength and the amazing care that Wanda gave him, he was able to stay alot longer. 

He is preceded in death my his parents, Albert and Edna Bilyeu; brother, Albert (ToJo) Bilyeu and niece, Stephanie Bilyeu.

Ray leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 55 years, Wanda Bilyeu; daughters, Kim (Chris) Clinard and Lisa Bilyeu; grandchildren, McKaylee Bilyeu, Jayce McCall, Tyreese Cogshell; great-grandchildren, Ariyah Cogshell and little "Peanut" that is due in July; brother Randy (Delilah) Bilyeu and sisters, Darlene (William) Bush, Pam (Dwight) Dean and Nancy Beauchane; and a host of nieces, nephews' and many close friends. 

To honor Ray's memory and celebrate his well-lived life, visitation services will be held at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center on January 22nd from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Additional visitation services will take place at the same venue on January 23rd from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 PM with Brother David Evans officiating. The burial ceremony will commence at 2:00 PM with Jamie Dean, Kevin Dean, Darrell Bilyeu, Phillip Bilyeu, Tyreese Cogshell and Tremaine Stewart serving as pallbearers..

Ray Chester Bilyeu will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will continue to inspire for generations to come. May he rest in eternal peace.
