William Haggard Couts age 96 of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Morningside of Springfield.
He was born on June 29, 1925 to the late Joe Clinton and Tenni Elizabeth Couts. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and attended University of Tennessee at Knoxville for two years. Mr. Couts joined the Army during WWII where he served his country as a parachute rigger and repair man. He was among those at the battle of Ardennes and flew 5 missions on a B-17 as a tail gunner from 1945 to 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic service.
After returning home, Mr. Couts worked at Commerce Union in Nashville and began a 30-year career with the United Stated Postal Service as a Rural Carrier. He was a farmer all of his life and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a past Commander of the VFW and a proud supporter of the Democratic Party.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Couts was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Davis Couts; daughter, Connie Couts Reese
He is survived by his children, William H. Couts, Jr., Vickie Couts and Sherry Couts; grandchildren, Jason (Lynea) Rogers and Deanna Couts; and great-granddaughters, Alyssa Vanderstyne and Aubree Rogers.
A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 12:00pm in the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home with Brother Doug Spain officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10am until the time of service. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery with William H. Couts. Jr., Jason Rogers, Howard Bradley, Kevin Spain, Jared Cox, Jason Krisle and Michael Poole serving as pallbearers.
