Grover Stroud

June 18, 1930 — March 3, 2022

Orlinda

Grover Charles Stroud, age 91 of Orlinda passed away at his home on Thursday, March 3, 2022. He was born on June 18, 1930 to the late Ewing and Lula Stroud in Stroudsville Community. Grover was a 1950 graduate of Jo Byrns High School and was crowned the King of Jo Byrns his Senior Year. He married the love of his life on November 11, 1955, they were blessed with four children. Grover and Lettie have been devoted member of Orlinda Baptist for over 50 years. He served his country in the United States Army in the Tank Division as a Tank Commander before he was honorable discharged.

After his discharge, Grover went to work for Louisville & Nashville Railroad which would later become CSX. He worked within the bridge division doing his part in making sure that the more than 600,000 bridges each with their unique history, structure and engineering were always safe. It wasn’t uncommon for Grover to be sitting at a railroad crossing and him say “Roll on...Roll on” as the train ran by. Grover worked for over 30 years at CSX before retiring. Retired had a very loose definition. You see, while Grover was working full time at the railroad, he also worked part-time at Avco for 20 years and his evenings were spent on his farm. He worked two jobs for as long as anyone could remember. Even after he retired, he spent 20 plus years working at Orlinda Convenience Center or filling in at Cross Plains. Here he enjoyed catching up with his neighbors and making people laugh.

His family recalled the amazing job Grover did providing for them over the years. Time together was important to Grover and Lettie which they passed down through the generations from family gatherings to spending time together from Christmas, Birthdays or weekends together. A special vacation to D.C with their cooler and Hibachi grill would be talked about and shared for many years to come.

Grover’s congenial, hardworking and caper ability will be remembered, along with his love for his family will always live in the hearts of those that loved him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Grover is preceded in death by his son, Grover Charles Stroud, Jr. and siblings, Margaret Baker, Louise Nicholson, Fred Stroud and Tom Stroud.

He is survived by his wife Lettie J. Stroud of 66 years; children, Connie (Ed) Coleman, Cathy (Pat) Cunningham and Christopher (Angie) Stroud; daughter-in-law, Julie Stroud; grandchildren, Jackie (Jerremy) Williams, Patrick (Maya) Cunningham, Evan Cunningham, Rachel (Jacob) Bibb, Seth (Julia West) Stroud, James Coleman, Amelia Stroud, and Lucas Stroud; great-grandchildren, Emma Williams, Ava Williams, Laila Williams, Enya Cunningham, Eliora Cunningham and Adalie Coleman.
