Steven Johnson

Steven Lee Johnson, 75, of Sanford, FL and formerly of Greenbrier, TN passed away Monday, April 18, 2022. Born January 27, 1947 in Ft. Wayne, IN he was the son of the late Paul E. Johnson and Lois N. Parkinson Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy in 2016.  Steve and Nancy had moved to Greenbrier in 2001 and he had been a member of the 1st Baptist Church, Greenbrier.

Steve was a proud veteran of the US Air Force.  He was a strong, determined, and stubborn(!) man who rebounded from a debilitating auto accident while in the service.  That same determination helped him remain sober for 46 years, one day at a time.  He often worked as a volunteer at the VA Medical Center and with his AA Chapter.

Steve married the love of his life, Nancy, in April 1979.  He was a loving father with a warm and caring heart, always enjoyed people and had a great sense of humor.  And, if you needed a mint, he was your guy!  Folks often referred to him as the “Candy Man” due to his omnipresent bag of starlight mints, lifesavers, and butterscotch candies.

He is survived by his daughter Angela (Paul) Daugherty, son Mark (Amanda) Johnson, grandchildren William and Autumn Daugherty and siblings Sherri (Frederick) Barnoske and Jeffrey Johnson.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held Saturday, April 30th at 2:00 PM at Springfield Funeral Home, 4005 Memorial Blvd., Springfield, TN followed by interment with military honors at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Visitation will precede the service from 12 noon until 2 PM.
